The Pokhara Valley
one of the most picturesque spot of Nepal, is enchanted by its
lovely lakes Phewa, Begnas and Rupa, 200 kilometers west of
Kathmandu. Pokhara is connected by air as well or by road from
Kathmandu and Bhairahawa a border town near India. Pokhara is
situated at an
altitude of 827 meters from the sea- level, offers the
magnificent views of Mt. Dhaulagiri, Mt. Manaslu, Mt. Machhapuchhre
(The Fish Tail), five peaks of Mt. Annapurna range those attract the
trekkers to enjoy a relaxing holiday in the valley area. It is
a perfect blend of fascination mountains, beautiful lakes (offer
fishing boating and swimming), artistic and sacred temples, caves
and exciting spots such as Sarangkot (very famous for sunrise view
over the Himalayas) Naudanda and others for day hiking.
Phewa Lake: The second largest
lake in the kingdom is the center of all attraction in Pokhara. The
eastern shore, popular is known as lakr side ao Baidam, is the
favorite home base for travellers, where most of the hotels,
restaurants, and handicraft shops are located.
Begnas & Rupa Lake The
lakes offer the pwerfect nature retreat because of their relative
seculsion. Splendid boating and fishing oppertunities can be had
here.
Barahi Temple: The most
important religious monument in Pokhara, built allmost in the middle
of Phewa Lake, thsi two storied pagoda is dedicated tio the boar
manifestation os Ajima, the protectress Deity representing the
femele force.
Seti Gandaki: Flowing right
through the city, the boisterous river runs copletly underground at
places. Amazingly, iat certain points the river appears hardly two
meters wide. But its depth is quite beyond emagianation over 45
meters.
Devi’s Fall: Locally known as
"Pataley Chhango" is an awesome waterfall lying about two
km. aousthwest from Pkhara Airport. Legend has it that a trekker
(Devin David….) was washed away by the Pardi Khola and
mysteriously disappeared down into an underground passage beneath
the fall.
Mahendra Gupha: Another of
nature wonders in Pokhara is the Mahendra Gupha thsi large limestone
cave is locally known as the house of Bats an apt name for it. A two
hour walk to the north of Pokhara, it is best to bring your own
torch to see the stalactites and stalagmites, as well as the local
winged residents.
